CHEERing football news!

This was quite a weekend for CHEERing football! On Sunday our Malakasa girls – the self-named Beautiful Girls – fielded two 5 a side teams in their first games ever! The teams traveled by bus to Ritsona camp, where they played 2 matches – older and younger girls – against 2 Ritsona girls’ teams. Both games ended in 0-0 draws and everyone came home happy.

On the very same day, the Refugees Hope men’s team, sponsored jointly by CHEERing and Wave of Hope, played their first game in the Anexartito.gr, the biggest amateur league in Greece. This was their first 11 v 11 game as a team, and they won 5-0.

Meanwhile, the CHEERing men’s futsal team has won both their games so far in the Malakasa men’s futsal tournament.

CHEERing didn’t start out as a player in the football field, but we recognize the huge impact sports has on physical and mental health for adolescents and families, as well as the sheer fun and excitement it brings to so many lives. This is what our beneficiaries asked us to help with, and it’s certainly proving an exciting and super-popular venture!
