CHEERing student wins grant funding

Joanna Papadakis, currently a student at Cornell University in the USA, has won a 2021 Projects for Peace award to work with CHEERing in the summer of 2021.

Her Project Eλευθερία (Project Freedom) will help CHEERing and their partners, the Elna Maternity Center, to renovate the CHEERing clinic at Elna, and will provide the basis of a new mother-baby space at CHEERing’s own central office. The hope is that a fully renovated clinic will attract more medical personnel to Elna. CHEERing is already planning collaboration with Acupuncturists without Borders and MVI on using the space once renovated.

Joanna is a senior in the College of Human Ecology, studying Human Development, with minors in
Global Health and Biological Sciences, and her family is from Greece. We look forward to welcoming her to Athens in June.
